The opening day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, held at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, witnessed unprecedented spending as ten franchises shelled out a collective INR 467.95 crore. Among the highlights was Rishabh Pant, who fetched a record INR 27 crore from the Lucknow Super Giants, making him the highest-paid player in IPL history. Punjab Kings emerged as the most aggressive franchise, investing INR 88 crore on eight players, including top buys Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 crore) and Yuzvendra Chahal (INR 18 crore). Kolkata Knight Riders secured Venkatesh Iyer for INR 23.75 crore, adding another marquee player to their squad. A total of 84 players were presented on Day 1, with 68 being sold and four retained using Right-to-Match (RTM) cards. Prominent uncapped players like Rasikh Salam (INR 6 crore by Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Naman Dhir (INR 5.25 crore by Mumbai Indians) also commanded impressive bids.

The auction resumes on Day 2 with 32 players under the hammer, followed by an accelerated process for the remaining roster. Teams will continue to finalize their squads for what promises to be one of the most competitive IPL seasons.
